Color Play Friday: Tulip Festival {Color Palette & Sea-Themed Fabric Bundle}

Happy Friday! It's time for another Color Play Friday hosted by Trina (In An Otter Life) and Lorinda (Laurel, Poppy & Pine).  How has a whole week gone by without another blog post?

For more information on Color Play Friday, visit their blogs for the guidelines and contact information - you are welcome to join in!

This week's image was taken at Tulip Festival in the Skagit Valley.  I wanted to skip the obvious green and pull other colors for this palette.  I used the tulips, mountains, and the little building in the background on the left for this color play.  For fabrics, I chose to stick with a loose sea theme after I chose the Mendocino Mermaids.  I loved the idea of the Mermaids swimming after the Tula Pearls of Wisdom.  The Alison Glass Handcrafted Indigo isn't literally a sea-themed fabric, but it reminded me of water splashes.  I love the palette, but I'm not sure if the final fabric or two are too strong or graphic to coordinate with the first three?  What do you think?  It's still all practice to me and I'm more of a hands-on person.  But I enjoyed putting this one together.  I'm purposing to not put Robert Kaufaman Essex Linen in every bundle, but it's a struggle.

  1. Tula Pink, Heather Ross and Alison Glass!? What's not to love! I like that you worked within a theme for your fabrics. I love how a strong pick for a first fabric can drive that. It's also interesting to see a palette without green. :-)

    1. Sarah - I agree! Three of my favorite designers all hanging out in a bundle together. Working within the theme was fun and definitely driven by the mermaids. I really enjoy and benefit from this weekly creative exercise - lots to learn!

  2. This one is my favorite this week. The mermaids won it over for me! It went together great!

    1. Thanks Trina! I can't wait until Mendocino is released. The other mermaid print in the line is my favorite, but the color wasn't right for this palette.

    1. Thank you Linda. I'm a huge Heather Ross fan, too. I always want to buy it all, but then I never want to actually cut it, though!

  5. I thought I'd seen and commented on all the post. I know I saw yours, who could forget those mermaids, LOVE. I also love how you did not pick the greens and still had a great palette. I enjoyed it very much.
