1 Pattern:3 Ways Tour Kick-Off: Creative Counselor (& Me)

Today kicks off a new blog tour and you won't want to miss a single stop.  In fact, I hope you will be inspired to join in the fun and share your own take on 1Pattern:3Ways!  Nine other bloggers have joined together to show how they take one pattern and create it three ways - maybe for different sizes, other genders, separate seasons, or other ways.  It's a great way to not only Sew Your (Pattern) Stash - but to make sure you really get mileage out of your patterns.  Today I want to show you one pattern I've done three ways and point you to Katie at Creative Counselor who is our first stop on the tour. You can also enter the giveaway and join our link party (more info at this post).

First, Katie from Creative Counselor.  She took the Prefontaine Shorts for women (a pattern from Made with Moxie) and created three pair for herself, each with a different look.  Each pair varies in casual or dressiness, incorporates differences with binding and fabrics.  She even drafted a new pocket facing for two pair.  I really enjoyed her review of the pattern at the end, as well.  After seeing Katie's three versions of these shorts, I can see how they would make great shorts for everyday wear, athletics, or even sleeping shorts.  Be sure to visit her blog to read her complete post
and see more pictures.  Speaking of pictures - how fun is she to embrace the rainy weather?  I love the umbrella!

The first pattern I want to share that I've done three ways is the Flutterby Playsuit from Little Kiwi's Closet.  I've blogged about it before here and here.  But I've made another recently, and it's a great pattern to showcase since it has such versatility.  The first time I used the pattern to make a long sleeve newborn suit our of corduroy for my second daughter before she was even born, and I modified the pattern to make it into a coordinating dress for my older daughter.  (to see the dress, go to this post)  Recently, during Kids Clothes Week, I made two other versions of the playsuit with a few modifications to each.  One uses a double gauze fabric and incorporates flutter sleeves with a lace trim.  The butterfly version I modified to only have elastic running across the front and back (instead of the complete neckline all the way over the shoulders) and trimmed the leg and arm openings with bias binding, which I also used to make shoulder straps.  (on a side note, I couldn't believe I found this 100% cotton bias binding at JoAnns!  It's so nice and soft - and pretty!)  I would like to say that the navy butterfly is, in fact, centered nicely.  It just doesn't look that way in the photo.

Be sure to come back Tuesday for the next part of our tour and the announcement about your chance to participate and to win some new patterns!
